In The Ring Two, Rachel must investigate the background of Samara Morgan after her son becomes sick with an unknown ailment.In The Ring, Rachel Keller as an investigative reporter is contacted by her sister Ruth to investigate the mysterious circumstances surrounding Katie's death. Rachel is informed by her sister Ruth that she discovered Katie's deformed body in the closet. She also revealed that Katie was killed by a heart attack. Katie's friends tell Rachel about the legend that surrounds the cursed tape and how Katie's friend Becca was put in an institution due to Katie's death. Rachel also discovers that Katie's boyfriend and two of her acquaintances suffered fatal accidents the same night , at around 10 pm. Rachel travels to Shelter Mountain Inn, where she stays in Cabin 12. This cabin is one where Katie and her friends saw the cursed tape. Rachel finds the mysterious tape and starts watching it, and then her phone rings. Rachel hears a voice utter "seven days". Rachel seeks advice from her former boyfriend Noah Clay, a video analyst. Then, Rachel discovers that Aidan, her son with Noah had watched the tape as Noah calls her and tells her that he is convinced by her. Rachel examines the lighthouse found on the tape, and discovers it is located on Moesko Island, the home of an ill-fated horse breeder known as Anna Morgan, who appeared on the tape that was cursed. Rachel finds out that Anna was the mother of an adoptive daughter named Samara. Samara was able to create disturbing images in the minds of animals, humans, and objects. Rachel encounters Anna's widower Richard however, he takes her leave when she begins to inquire about Samara.
